spirit mandalas

A circle is the reflection of eternity.
It has no beginning and it has no end…

spiritual mandalas

The spiritual mandala series is focused on religious or spiritual people, beings or symbols. I have always associated mandalas with spirituality. It’s what drew me to them initially.

I know that monks toil over intricate sand mandalas for days only to blow them away. I know I will likely never achieve this level of detachment but I can say that working on mandalas has helped me to let go in other ways.

Over time, I have learned not to judge myself or mandalas as much. It isn’t about achieving perfection but creating something authentic. And I am able to regift a drawing once I’ve captured it in a photograph.

collective creativity

The overall creative process is also very spiritual to me. I once read about a saint who signed her art with the symbol for the holy spirit. This really resonated with me because I believe ideas come from some deep well that belongs to all of us. Maybe it’s the collective unconscious, divine inspiration, or both.

I was raised Catholic so I’m most familiar with the Christian icons, symbols and concepts. But I plan to explore other religions and spiritual concepts more soon. I minored in religious studies and have always been fascinated by all religions and philosophies.
